WINNEMUCCA - The final regional and state championships of the high school season are slated to start this weekend and early next week for Lowry and McDermitt.
The only squad that will be at home for the playoffs is the Lowry High School softball team. The Lady Bucks, the top seed in the Ruby Mountain League, will host South Tahoe in a best 2-of-3 series to advance to the state championships. Game time is set for 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. If a second Saturday game is needed it will be played at noon. It is a NIAA event and admission prices are $7 for adults, $5 for students and children eight and under and senior citizens 62 and older are free.
Churchill County hosts Elko and Fernley travels to Truckee in the other two regional playoff pods. The three winners advance to the NIAA 3A State Championships presented by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Farmers Insurance Group to be played at Damonte Ranch High School and Hixson Park (University of Nevada) from Thursday, May 17 - Saturday, May 19.
The Buckaroo baseball team, the second seed in the Ruby Mountain League, will travel to Fallon to face Churchill County in a best 2-of-3 series. Friday's game will start at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday's games are set for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (if needed). Once again it is a NIAA event and the same prices for admission apply.
The other regional matchups include Sparks at Elko and Fernley at Truckee.

The Lowry boys golf team will close out its regular season Thursday at Truckee and move on to the NIAA 3A State Championships presented by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Farmers Insurance Group in Boulder City on Monday and Tuesday, May 14 - 15. The 36-hole, two-day championship will be played at Boulder Creek (Desert Hawk and Eldorado) and Boulder Municipal. The Buckaroos will be looking to win their state-record 11th state title.
The Lowry swim team will travel to Carson City for the Northern 4A Regional Championships. The trials begin at 1 p.m. and the finals are set for Saturday at 1 p.m. The top three individual finishers and the top three relay teams in each event advance to the 2012 NIAA Class 4A Nevada State High School Swimming and Diving Championships at Buchanan Natatorium on the campus of UNLV on Saturday, May 19.
The Buckaroo track and field team makes the trip to Fallon on Friday and Saturday for the Northern 3A Regional Championships. The meet starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. The top five placers from the Northern 3A meet and the top two placers
from the Southern 3A meet qualify for the state championships. The eighth qualifier will be determined by comparing the
No. 6 mark (or next best) from the north to that with the No. 3 mark from the south. The state championships will be held at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno on Friday, May 18, and Saturday, May 19.
The McDermitt track and field team will also be in Fallon for the 1A Regional Championships. The top four finishers in each event qualify for the state championships at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno on Friday, May 18, and Saturday, May 19.
