Even though school is out for students in Humboldt County, Lowry and McDermitt high schools remain busy on the basketball floor and wrestling mat.
The Lowry wrestling team is finishing up its stay at the Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno today. The tournament, which features nearly 90 teams from around the West, began Monday at the Reno Livestock Events Center. Readers can follow the tournament at www.trackwrestling.com.
The Buckaroos will take another group of grapplers to Sparks on Friday for the Sparks Invitational.
The Lowry freshmen and JV boys and girls basketball teams play in Reno today, concluding its stay at a four-day tournament.
The Lowry varsity boys basketball team heads out on the road tonight to face Reno in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. The Huskies and Buckaroos played earlier in the season at the Rail City Classic. Reno won that game 58-45.
The Buckaroo JV and varsity basketball teams travel to Truckee on Saturday for Division I-A North contests. The JV girls tip-off at 10 a.m., with the JV boys set for 11:30 a.m. The varsity girls play at 1 p.m. and the varsity boys finish the day at 2:30 p.m.
The Lowry freshmen girls and boys basketball teams will be at home on Friday to host Sparks at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. The Buckaroos host Truckee on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
The McDermitt basketball teams are home on Friday for a non-conference game against Jordan Valley, Ore. The girls start at 4:30 p.m. and the boys follow. The Bulldogs are on the road Saturday to play Smith Valley, with the girls beginning at 4 p.m. and the boys at 5:30 p.m.
