Lowry, McDermitt boys basketball teams head to state tournament

WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt County will be well represented this weekend in Reno at the NIAA State Basketball Championships presented by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Farmers Insurance.

The Lowry High School boys basketball team defeated Dayton 44-29 last Friday night and will play Boulder City this Friday at 4:40 p.m. at Reno High School. The Eagles defeated the Buckaroos 63-48 at the beginning of the season in Boulder City.

Elko will face Fernley - an upset winner over Sparks - in the other semifinal game at 8 p.m., also at Reno High School. The championship game is set for 4:15 p.m. on Saturday at Lawlor Events Center on the campus of the University of Nevada.

The McDermitt boys basketball team captured the Northern 1A championship with a 78-64 win over Owyhee on Saturday afternoon in Elko. The Bulldogs will play Pahranagat Valley on Friday at 4 p.m. at Lawlor.

Owyhee will take on Spring Mountain on Friday at 12:40 p.m. The championship game will take place on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. Both games will be played at Lawlor.
