A season ago the Lowry High School junior varsity volleyball team suffered its only loss of the year at the Truckee Invitational. That did not happen this fall.

The Lady Bucks went a perfect 6-0 last Saturday on their way to winning the championship on their league rivals floor.

"I wasn't really sure what to expect going in to the day," said LHS coach Cassie Jenkins. "We had good team unity and the girls pulled together all day. They totally surprised me. They had some really good shining moments and a few moments where they were a young team. Overall, it was a good day."

Lowry found itself in a battle to begin the season with a 28-26 and 26-24 victory over Spring Creek. The Lady Bucks followed that up with a 25-11 and 25-11 win over North Valleys of the Division I North.

Lowry needed to go to three sets to beat Churchill County 25-12, 16-25 and 15-9. The Greenwave was the only team to beat the Lady Bucks a season ago.

Lowry took down Sierra Lutheran 25-19 and 25-14 and Woodcreek, Calif., 25-13 and 26-24 to reach the title match. Lowry met up with Churchill County for the championship and beat the Greenwave 25-19 and 25-15.

The Lady Bucks' roster includes Kepa Bengochea, Tiana Herrera, Olivia Silva, Aimee Brandon, Tailor West, Jadyn Eastman, Alanna Miller, Alyssa Kuskie and Kyllie Sappington.

"I was pleased with how we played," Jenkins said. "This is a good bunch of girls. Each one of them brings something different to the floor that helps us."

Lowry starts Division I-A North play this weekend, beginning today in Dayton at 5 p.m. The Lady Bucks face Fernley on Saturday at 11 a.m. and travel to Sparks on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match with the Railroaders.[[In-content Ad]]
