WINNEMUCCA - The last time the Lowry High School junior varsity volleyball team lost a match it was the first week of September in a tournament at Truckee, Calif.
Since then, the Lady Bucks have won 15 consecutive matches, including four more in a seven-day span. Lowry is now 14-0 in the Division I-A North and 19-1 overall.
Lowry stepped out of league play on Wednesday and defeated Pershing County 25-4 and 25-15.
Brooklyn Waller served the first nine points of the opening set against the Lady Mustangs, which included two aces. During that stretch, Olivia Silva and Hannah Hillyer had kills.
Pershing County stopped the run, only to have the Lady Bucks' Madison Montero start another 6-0 run with a kill. After the kill, the freshman took to the service line and nailed two aces to help push the advantage to 15-1.
Following two points by Pershing County, it was time for Hillyer to collect a couple of aces as the freshman pushed the lead to 20-3. Chelsea Herrera closed out the set with two aces of her own.
It was much of the same in the second set as the Lady Bucks raced out to an 8-1 lead. The Mustangs closed the gap to 10-7 at one time, when Lowry reeled off six consecutive points and were not challenged again.
Hillyer finished with two kills, two aces and one block, Herrera had three aces and two kills and Kaity Sample had one dig. Montero contributed three aces and two kills, Madison Lozano and Silva each had one kill, Waller had six assists and three aces and Ashlee Barron had one ace.
On Tuesday, Lowry played host to Churchill County, the only school to beat them this year. The Lady Bucks narrowly won the first set 25-21 and had to come from behind in set two. The Greenwave led 22-14 at one time, only to see Lowry score the final 11 points of the set to win the match.
With the victory, the Lady Bucks completed the season sweep of the Greenwave.
Montero led Lowry with 12 digs and seven kills to go with one ace on the night. Barron finished with two kills and two digs, Waller had six assists, two digs and one ace and Lozano had two kills and one block.
Silva had a team-high 12 digs, Hillyer added three kills and one block, Sample had one dig and one assist, Alanna Miler two digs, two aces and one kill and Herrera had one kill.
Lowry played host to Truckee on Friday, Oct. 18, and collected a 25-9 and 25-20 win over the Wolverines to finish off the season sweep of the California school.
The Lady Bucks began their stretch of four matches in seven days on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Sparks. Lowry had little trouble with the Railroaders, winning 25-14 and 25-14.
Montero had three aces, three kills and one block, Barron and Herrera each had three kills and Lozano finished with two kills and one ace.
Hillyer finished with six kills, three aces and two digs, Miller had four digs, Sample two aces and one kill and Waller three aces.
Lowry will look to close out a perfect league season when it travels to Elko on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. match with the Indians. The Lady Bucks close out their season on Saturday, Nov. 2, against Spring Creek at noon.
