WINNEMUCCA - Just one fall sports team at Lowry High School can lay claim to a perfect record in the Division I-A North this season.
The Lady Buckaroo junior varsity volleyball team closed out its year with 17 consecutive victories, 16 of those in the Division I-A North.
Lowry hit the floor for one final time this year on Saturday in Winnemucca and came away with a 25-13 and 25-19 win over Spring Creek. That followed a 20-25, 25-23 and 15-12 win at Elko on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The Lady Bucks went 16-0 in the Division I-A North and 21-1 overall. The only loss was to Churchill County in a tournament in Truckee in the first week of the season. Lowry's JV team featured seven freshmen and three sophomores.
"An undefeated season in league sounds pretty good," said LHS head coach Cassandra Jenkins. "It was a great year for the girls and I just want to thank them. I also wanted to thank the parents for all their support this year. It was a great year for us."
Lowry had little trouble with Spring Creek in the opening set, scoring eight of the first 11 points. In that run, Madison Montero had two kills and Ashlee Barron an ace.
The Spartans hurt their own cause, missing four serves in the opening set. Lowry jumped to an eight-point advantage at 13-5, following an ace by Olivia Silva. Later in the set, Montero added an ace and a kill to put it out of reach.
Trailing 3-1 in the second set, Hannah Hillyer and Barron got the Lady Bucks back on track with a block and an ace, respectively. With the set tied at 9-9, Barron gave Lowry the lead for good with a kill, which started a 9-2 run. Also as part of the stretch, Hillyer had a kill, Brooklyn Waller two aces, including one that went off the top of the net and Barron and Chelsea Herrera had kills.
Spring Creek closed the gap to four points late in the set, but missed two more serves to end any rally. Barron closed out the match and season for the Lady Bucks with a kill.
Montero finished with four kills, one block and one ace for Lowry, while Waller added nine assists and four aces. Hillyer contributed three kills and one block, Barron had six kills, two aces and one assist, Herrera one kill and one ace, Silva one ace and Madison Lozano one kill and one block.[[In-content Ad]]
