WINNEMUCCA - When the Lowry High School junior varsity girls soccer team played Churchill County in Fallon in September, the Greenwave won 6-0.
The two Division I-A North schools finished out their season series on Tuesday in Winnemucca, with a much different outcome. Despite playing without substitutes on a warm October day, the Lady Bucks played the Greenwave tough, losing 2-1.
The matchup was scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play, when Churchill County got on the scoreboard in the 21st on a shot from about 15 yards out. That was the only goal in the first half, as Jasmine Marchand made a number of good saves for the Lady Bucks.
Churchill County increased its lead to 2-0 in the 44th minute, scoring off a cross in the middle of the 18-yard box.
Lowry (4-6-1) cut the deficit in half four minutes later as Alicia Wiley made her way through the Greenwave defense and was able to get the ball past the Churchill County goalkeeper.
That turned out to be the final goal of the day, despite both team having chances to add to their score.
The Lady Bucks hosted Truckee on Thursday and results were not available at press time. Lowry travels to Spring Creek on Thursday to face the Spartans at 2 p.m. and closes out its season on Friday, Nov. 1, against Elko at 2 p.m.
