Lowry JV girls continue to roll, crush Spartans and Mustangs

The Lowry High School junior varsity girls basketball team continues to make easy work of its opponents in the quest for an undefeated season.

The Lady Bucks (8-0 Division I-A North, 17-0 overall) disposed of Spring Creek 49-12 on Friday, Jan. 16. Lowry held Spring Creek without a field goal for the first 14 minutes of the game and led 18-1 in the second quarter at the time.

Lowry ended the first half on an 8-0 run, which included baskets from Kyllie Sappington, Brooklyn Backus and Kaity Sample. Backus' basket was a 3-point field goal.

Brooklyn Waller and Backus knocked down back-to-back baskets in the third quarter to give the Lady Bucks a 35-7 lead and Lowry held Spring Creek scoreless in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Spartans 10-0.

Ten different players scored for Lowry with Amaya Herrera and Waller leading the way at seven each. Alyssa Kuskie, Hannah Hillyer and Backus each scored six, Kenadee Jeppsen five, Sample and Sappington four each and Audrey Snow and Aimee Brandon two each.

Lowry was back on its home floor Tuesday night and defeated Pershing County 50-13. The Lady Bucks scored the first seven points of the game, which included a 3-pointer by Kuskie and a steal and layup by Waller. Lowry led 18-1 after eight minutes of play.

Pershing County made its only field goal of the first half, 16 seconds in to the second period. Lowry went on to outscore the Division II school 9-1 from there to lead 27-4 at halftime.

The Lady Bucks finished the contest on a 16-2 run, including scoring 12 of the 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Once again 10 players were in the score book in a balanced attack. Backus led all scorers with nine points, Hillyer added seven and Waller and Herrera had six points each.

Kuskie netted five points, McKenna Jones, Sample and Jeppsen four each, Sappington three and Snow two.

Lowry will look to remain perfect with two road games this weekend. The Lady Bucks take on South Tahoe today at 3 p.m. and Dayton on Saturday at 11 a.m.
