WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School junior varsity football team remained undefeated on the season with a 22-6 road victory over Elko on Friday, Oct. 4.
The Buckaroos (4-0 Division I-A North, 5-0 overall) fumbled on its opening possession of the game, leading to an Indians' lone touchdown and a 6-0 advantage.
The Elko lead was short-lived as Sterling Dennis ran the ensuing kick back for a touchdown, giving the Buckaroos a 7-6 lead that they took into halftime.
Lowry increased the advantage to 14-6 in the third quarter on the strength of a 60-yard touchdown pass from Omar Guerrero to Nate Nelson. The Buckaroos gave themselves some extra breathing room in the fourth quarter on a rushing touchdown by Gabe Molina.
"We hurt ourselves early with that fumble and started slow," said LHS coach Taua Cabatbat. "We cleaned it up after that and played OK."
After two straight weeks on the road, Lowry returns home today to play Sparks at 4:30 p.m. The Buckaroos are celebrating their Homecoming week.[[In-content Ad]]
