WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School junior varsity boys soccer team dropped a pair of home matches, losing 1-0 to Sage Ridge on Saturday and 6-0 to Sparks on Tuesday.
On Saturday, the Scorpions had just two shots on goal, but scored in the first five minutes of the match and made the advantage hold up. The ball just got by the Buckaroo goalie and rolled just inches past the line.
On Tuesday, Sparks scored twice in the first 12 minutes of the match, with both goals coming off corner kicks. The Railroaders notched the first goal in the second minute and the second came on a header off the corner kick. Sparks took a 3-0 lead into halftime, scoring in the 18th minute on a third rebound in the box.
Lowry had an opportunity to score in the first half, but a penalty kick by Steven Cholico was stopped in the 23rd minute.
The Railroaders added to their lead in the 45th minute and netted two more goals, including the finale on a long shot from about 40 yards in the final minutes of play.
Lowry plays host to South Tahoe on Saturday at 11 a.m. and travels to Fallon on Tuesday to play Churchill County at 2 p.m.
