The Lowry High School junior varsity boys basketball team closed out the first half of the Division I-A North schedule with a 53-41 win over Spring Creek on Friday, Jan. 16, in Winnemucca.
The Buckaroos (7-1 Division I-A North, 13-4 overall) never trailed in the contest and built an 8-3 advantage in the first quarter after a basket by Joe Taylor. Lowry took that same five-point lead, 15-10, in to the start of the second quarter.
The Buckaroos maintained their lead throughout the first half with baskets from Jed Teichert, Brody Goucher and Dominic Diaz. Spring Creek closed the gap to 27-23 in the first minute of the third quarter, but Lowry answered with a 3-point field goal by Teichert to push the margin back to 30-23.
The Spartans closed the gap to 36-31 after three quarters of play, but the Buckaroos gave themselves a comfortable margin, scoring the first seven points of the fourth quarter. Jacob Hernandez began the spurt, Diaz knocked down two free throws and Goucher added three points to give Lowry a 43-31 lead.
Spring Creek made last one run to cut the gap to 43-36 with 3:17 to play, when Diaz and Brady Lange notched back-to-back baskets and the Buckaroos were not threatened from there.
Lange led Lowry with 14 points, Diaz and Goucher each scored eight, Teichert seven. Hernandez and Taylor six each and Salvador Perez four.
Lowry travels to South Tahoe today for a 4:30 p.m. tip and Dayton on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The Buckaroos will be back at home for four consecutive games, beginning on Friday, Jan. 30, against Sparks at 4:30 p.m..
Lowry will face Truckee on Saturday, Jan. 31, and close out its home porition of the schedule on Friday, Feb. 6, gainst Fernley and Saturday, Feb. 7, versus Churchill County.
The Greenwave are the only team to beat the Buckaroos in Division I-A North action.[[In-content Ad]]
