WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School junior varsity volleyball team remained undefeated in the Division I-A North with a resounding 25-9 and 25-7 victory over Sparks on Wednesday night in Winnemucca.

"The girls came out and did what they needed to," said LHS head coach Cassie Jenkins. "They are coming together well as a group and we played well tonight. The girls kept the intensity up and played like they can."

A kill by Hannah Hillyer kick-started the Lady Bucks with the first point of the night on a kill and helped Lowry score 10 of the first 13 points of the first set. Kaitlyn Sample had a kill and ace and Madison a kill in that stretch of points as well.

The Lady Bucks (3-0 Division I-A North, 7-1 overall) used a second ace by Montero to build a 16-4 advantage and the rout continued from there.

It was much of the same in the second set as Lowry was dominating from the service line. Ashlee Barron and Hillyer each had two aces and Montero added an ace of her own to give the Lady Bucks a 10-3 lead.

Lowry used a kill from Hillyer and an ace by Madison Lozano to increase the lead to 10 points at 16-6.

The Lady Bucks scored nine of the final 10 points of the match. The last eight came off the serve of Waller, who had seven aces in a row.

Waller had nine aces and four assists in the match and Hillyer, Barron and Montero each had three kills and three aces. Alanna Miler finished with two assists and two kills, Lozano had two aces and one block and Sample two aces.

Lowry was at home on Friday, Sept. 13, and defeated Dayton 25-14 and 25-10 behind a strong team effort, according to the coach.

Hillyer had four aces, three kills and two assists for the Lady Bucks, while Barron had three kills and two assists. Montero added three kills, Lozano had two kills and one ace and Sample one assist.

Lowry hit the road this past Saturday and found itself in a battle with Fernley. The Lady Bucks went three sets with the Vaqueros and came out on the winning end 25-22, 18-25 and 17-15.

"It was a good match for us," Jenkins said. "Fernley came out and gave us a test. They came back and beat us in the second set and it was back and forth in the third set, before we were able to pull out the win."

Hillyer finished with six assists, four aces, four kills and two blocks, while Waller had eight kills, seven assists and one ace.

Miller had a team-high six assists, Montero had five kills, Sample two assists and one ace, Lozano one block, one ace and one assist, Barron two kills and Olivia Silva one kill.

Lowry travels to Truckee tonight to face the Wolverines at 5 p.m. The Lady Bucks already beat the Wolverines in a tournament earlier in the season in Truckee.

"We beat them once earlier in the year but that was a couple of weeks ago," Jenkins said. "A lot can change in those couple of weeks. We just have to be ready to play."
