Lowry High School spring sports get going this weekend

WINNEMUCCA - The spring sports season for Lowry High School is set to get underway this weekend around northern Nevada.

The Buckaroo baseball teams will be in Reno for a three-day tournament starting on Thursday.

The varsity squad opens play Thursday at North Valleys High School at 3:30 p.m. The Buckaroos face Bishop Manogue and Reno on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Wooster and Reno high schools, respectively. Lowry closes out the tournament on Saturday at Wooster at 10 a.m. and Damonte Ranch at 2 p.m.

The Lowry junior varsity baseball team is also in Reno and opens at McQueen High School on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The Buckaroos play Douglas at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Reno High School and finish up Saturday against McQueen and Reno at Reno High School at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.

For the second year in a row, the Lowry varsity softball team will be in the Sacramento, Calif., area for a three-day tournament. The Lady Bucks open play in the Elk Grove Tournament on Thursday at 5 p.m. against Galena. Lowry will play two California schools on Friday, beginning with Saint Francis (Mountain View, Calif.) at 5 p.m. and Christian Brothers (Sacramento, Calif.) at 6:45 p.m. Games on Saturday will be determined after pool play is complete.

The tournament features a number of California schools, along with Northern 4A schools Carson, Galena, Wooster, McQueen, Reed, Spanish Springs and Douglas. Churchill County, the defending 3A state champion, is also at the tournament.

The Lowry JV softball team will play in the Fernley Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Buckaroo boys golf team will hold a non-conference "Icebreaker" on Thursday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course at 10 a.m. The first conference meet for Lowry is Thursday, March 22, in Fernley at 10 a.m.

The Lowry track and field team is in Spring Creek on Saturday for a 9 a.m. league meet. The Buckaroos host the Tri-County Invitational on Tuesday, April 17, at 4 p.m. and their annual invitational on Saturday, May 5.

The Lowry swim team begins the year in Reno at Alf Sorenson Pool on Friday at 2 p.m., facing Reed and South Tahoe in a Zephyr League dual.
