Lowry High School spring sports begin this weekend

WINNEMUCCA - The spring sports season for Lowry High School gets under way this weekend, with squads traveling around northern Nevada and central California.

The Buckaroo varsity baseball team will be in Reno for a three-day tournament starting on Thursday.

Lowry plays at Reed High School at 4 p.m. on Thursday to open play in the tournament. The Buckaroos face Enochs (Modesto, Calif.) and Wooster on Friday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Reno and Wooster high schools, respectively. Lowry closes out the tournament on Saturday at Reno High School at 1:30 p.m. and McQueen at 4 p.m.

The Lowry junior varsity baseball team makes the trip to Yerington on Friday and Saturday. The Buckaroos play Spring Creek and Bishop, Calif., at 11:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively, on Friday. Lowry faces Mineral County at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday and closes out the weekend against Yerington at 1:15 p.m.

For the third year in a row, the Lowry varsity softball team will be in Sacramento, Calif., for the three-day Victory Preseason Tournament of Champions.

The Lady Bucks open with Wood High School (Vacaville, Calif.) on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. Lowry will play two more California schools on Friday, beginning with Wood Creek (Roseville) at 10:45 a.m. and Pleasant Grove (Elko Grove) at 12:30 p.m. The Lady Bucks will play all of their pool games at Bartholomew Park. Games on Saturday will be determined after pool play is complete.

The tournament features a number of California schools, along with Division I Nevada schools Douglas, Reed, Spanish Springs, Carson and Galena. Churchill County, the two-time defending Division I-A state champion, is also at the tournament. The Greenwave defeated the Lady Bucks last year in the state championship.

The Lowry JV softball team will play in the Yerington Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Lowry track and field team is in Spring Creek on Saturday for a league meet that begins at 9 a.m. The Buckaroos host their annual invitational on Saturday, May 4.

The Buckaroo boys golf team will hold a non-conference "Icebreaker" on Friday, March 15, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course at 9 a.m. The first conference meet for Lowry is Thursday, March 21, in Dayton at 10 a.m.

The Lowry swim team begins the year in Incline on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m., as its takes on Wooster in a Zephyr League dual.
