WINNEMUCCA - Local residents are invited to meet some up-and-coming pro basketball players at Lowry High School next week.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Reno Bighorns will face off against the Idaho Stampede during a preseason exhibition game in the school's old gym.
Prior to the game's tip-off, however, local residents are invited to an open house in the school's newly refurbished training rooms where they can greet the players, enjoy some refreshments and get a mini basketball courtesy of Humboldt General Hospital.
The open house will take place from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the training rooms in both the old and new gyms at the high school; the game begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and will be available at the door.
Earlier this year, Lowry High School and Humboldt General Hospital joined forces to ensure the health and well being of this community's athletes with the creation of the HGH "Sports Medicine Team" - a formal title for a sports medicine relationship that has existed between the community and the school for many years.
As part of the renewed relationship, Humboldt General Hospital helped upgrade the school's training rooms. Tuesday's open house will not only give residents a chance to see the rooms, but to meet Reno's NBA Development League team members.
Tuesday's game is the Bighorns' second preseason game. They played the Santa Cruz Warriors Nov. 14; their home opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Reno Events Center.
No doubt local residents will be thrilled to see a professional level of basketball on Lowry's home court. But students will get plenty of interaction off-court as well.
Players from the Bighorns and the Stampede will visit area elementary schools and French Ford Middle School Tuesday afternoon to share some one-on-one time with youngsters. The Bighorns cheerleaders, dance team members and even Bruno, the Bighorns mascot, will be on hand as well.
There is no charge to attend the pre-game open house at Lowry High School. Tickets for the game will be available at the door for $10 each.
