Lowry grad Duncan signs with St. Martin's University to play baseball

WINNEMUCCA - Gus Duncan, a 2012 Lowry High School graduate, is the latest Buckaroo to move on to college to further his sporting and academic career.

Duncan has signed to play baseball for St. Martin's University in Lacey, Wash. The Saints are a NCAA Division II school and a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. St. Martin's was 10-20 in conference play and 14-34 overall in the 2012 season. The Saints are coached by Ken Garland, who will be entering his fifth year as head coach.

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference consists of the Saints, along with Montana State-Billings, Northwest Nazarene, Western Oregon and Central Washington.

Duncan was an honorable mention selection on the Ruby Mountain League team this season and was a second-team choice in 2011. This past season, Duncan finished with a .345 batting average with 20 hits, 20 runs scored and 19 RBIs. He saw time on the field in many different positions throughout his high school career.

The Buckaroos finished second in the Ruby Mountain League this season at 11-4 and were 16-12 overall, losing to Churchill County in the regional playoffs.

Duncan also was a three-time individual state champion and was part of four consecutive team champions on the Lowry wrestling squad. He was a running back and defensive back on the Buckaroo football team that reached the state semifinals the past two years.
