WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School girls golf team saw its chances of winning the Division I-A North come to an end late last week, due to a mix up in what day it thought it played.
The league traveled to Ponderosa Golf Course in Truckee, Calif., this past Thursday. The issue - Lowry had the understanding the meet was on Friday and not Thursday morning.
Elko won the tournament in Truckee with a score of 397, and all but locked up the league title with 45 points. Fernley finished second with a 424 and Spring Creek was third at 449.
Despite missing the meet, Lowry is still in line for a spot in the state tournament and is second in the Division I-A North with 38 points.
The Lady Bucks have to finish at least fourth to guarantee their spot at state. Spring Creek leads Fernley by two points, 35-33, for the final spot in the state championships.
Lowry travels to Ruby View Golf Course in Elko on Thursday for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The NIAA state championships will be played Monday, Oct. 15, and Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Wildcreek Golf Course in Sparks.
