The Lowry High School girls golf team finished out its regular season with a second-place finish at Fallon last Wednesday in windy conditions at the Fallon Golf Course.
Scores were up through the entire field, with Elko winning with a 393 and Lowry was second at 407. Churchill County (416) shot its best score of the year to finish third and Fernley was fifth at 419. Spring Creek had the only other team score at 481.
The Lady Bucks had two golfers named to the Division I-A North first team in senior Alyssa Dendary and sophomore Elise Rose. Rose shot 95 for Lowry in Fallon.
Fernley's Brittany Evans was named the Player of the Year. Elko's Kaily Beatty and Brooke Elquist made the first team as did Truckee's Sienna Scibird and Spring Creek's Mikal Jerman.
Lowry's Brooklyn Backus and Savanna Cox were named to the Division I-A North second team. Cox shot her third-best round of the year in Fallon with a 101. Both players are sophomores.
Elko's Alyssa Pete and Chalee Mullin, Fernley's Courtney Dunn and Churchill County's Sarah Evans also played their way on to the second team.
Lowry's Kaity Sample shot her best score of the year last week at Fallon with a 101 and Veronica Jones carded a 118 for the Lady Bucks.
Elko won the Division I-A North with 78 points, Lowry was second at 74 and Fernley (63) finished third. All three schools qualified for the NIAA State Girls Golf Championships, which started yesterday at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. Results were not available at press time.
Faith Lutheran won the Division I-A South championship with a 340, while Clark was second at 353 and SECTA was third at 442. Those three schools are also competing at state. Faith Lutheran and Clark are the favorites to win the title.
