Lowry golfers earn runner-up finishes at Dayton, South Tahoe

The Lowry High School girls golf team claimed a pair of runner-up finishes to start the Division I-A North season. Elko took home the top spot at both Dayton and South Tahoe.

On Tuesday, the Indians shot a 377 to beat the Lady Bucks by 23 shots. Fernley was third at 436, Churchill County (469) finished fourth and Dayton (525) rounded out the top five. Sparks was the only other school to record a team score. Spring Creek, South Tahoe and Truckee failed to have team scores.

Alyssa Dendary led Lowry with a 92 and Elise Rose shot a 97. Truckee's Sienna Scibird was the low medalist with a 79.

The Division I-A North moved to South Tahoe on Wednesday, where Lowry closed the gap on Elko. The Indians shot 408 to win, while Lowry was second at 422. Fernley, Churchill County and Dayton completed the top five.

Dendary shot her second consecutive 92 to lead the Lady Bucks. Brooklyn Backus shot 104 for the second straight day as well. Fernley's Brittany Evans was the low medalist at 79.

Lowry hosts the Division I-A North on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m.
