Lowry gold wrestlers finish third at Douglas Invitational

Buckaroos have six wrestlers finish in top three

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School wrestling team split its squads once again last Saturday, sending a group to the Douglas Invitational in Minden.

The Buckaroos finished third with 121 points, with McQueen and Reed placing first and second with 156.50 and 143.50 points, respectively. Fernley was fourth at 120 and North Valleys rounded out the top five with 106.50 points. Eighteen schools took part in the tournament.

"McQueen and Reed brought some tough teams," said LHS assistant coach Brant Corak. "We were able to get by Fernley by a point, showing that every match counts. We came out and beat a number of varsity teams again."

Michael Venzor, Tristen Waller and Blake Hillyer earned runner-up finishes for the Buckaroos. Nate Nelson, Gabe Molina and Bryan Ramos finished third.

Cameron Okuma, Tyler Boyd, Chris Karchella, Micah Somers and Kyle Meyers reached the consolation semifinals.

Lowry travels to Spring Creek on Friday and Saturday for the Kiwanis Invitational. Wrestling begins at 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.[[In-content Ad]]
