The Lowry High School girls soccer team began a tough stretch of three matches in five days, with a 7-0 loss to South Tahoe on Friday afternoon in Winnemucca. The Vikings entered the match as the defending Division I-A state champions.
"I didn't think we played bad," said LHS coach Melanie Rasor. "South Tahoe is a good team and they earned their goals. We got behind with that penalty kick right away and I am not sure what Jasmine did."
With the loss, the Lady Bucks dropped to 2-4-1 in the Division I-A North and 3-5-2 overall.
South Tahoe struck in the seventh minute on a penalty kick after a call on Lady Buckaroo goalie Jasmine Marchand. The deficit remained the same until the 23rd minute and the Vikings added a third goal five minutes before the first half ended.
South Tahoe picked up three goal in a seven-minute stretch in the second half to put the match out of reach. The Vikings scored in the 50th minute off a cross to the middle and the shot went into the right corner of the net. South Tahoe was back on the board five minutes later of a breakaway and the Vikings increased the lead to 6-0 in the 57th minute after getting through the Lowry defense.
South Tahoe closed out the scoring in the 70th minute off a rebound after Lindsay Pate saved the first shot, but the Vikings were near the net for a second opportunity.
Lowry's tough run of matches continued on Monday as the Lady Bucks hosted Truckee. Results were not available at press time. Lowry is back on the field today to host Churchill County at 4 p.m. The Greenwave won the first match-up in Fallon earlier in the season.[[In-content Ad]]
