Lowry football equipment handout to be held Monday

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School football team will be handing out equipment to all players on Monday at 5 p.m. in the new gym at the high school.

Victory packs will be available for purchase for $50 and players need to pay their pay-to-play fee, which is $25. Paperwork for the upcoming season will be available as well and must be completed in order for the player to begin practice. Freshmen and juniors must have physicals completed before they can practice.

As part of the new heat acclimation period, Lowry will have conditioning practice on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 5 p.m. Practice for the team begins Thursday, Aug. 9, from 7 a.m. - noon, in shorts, T-shirts and helmets. Practices will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The first day with full pads and contact drills will be Monday, Aug. 13, at 7 a.m.

In addition, summer conditioning continues Monday - Thursday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the weight room. Conditioning will continue until this Thursday and paperwork for the upcoming season will be available to athletes. Parents' night in the Lowry High School auditorium will be Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m.

The Buckaroos will host a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 18, against Reno High School and Elko. Lowry opens the regular season at Battle Mountain on Friday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m., followed by a trip to Truckee, the three-time defending state champions, on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 1:30 p.m. The game with the Wolverines will be the Northern Division 1-A opener for the Buckaroos.

The Buckaroos' home opener is Friday, Sept. 7, against Wooster at 7 p.m. Lowry is coming off its best season since 1992, going 9-3 and reaching the semifinals of the 3A state playoffs, before falling 19-6 to Moapa Valley.

All of the other fall sports (volleyball, girls golf, girls and boys cross country and girls and boys soccer) at Lowry get underway on Monday, Aug. 13.
