WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School cross country team closed out its season last Saturday at the Division I-A Northern Regional Championships at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
Both teams finished seventh as a team, with the boys recording 186 points and the girls 201 points. Both teams came up short of advancing to the state championships.
On the girls side, Truckee won the team title with 27 points and Spring Creek was second at 37. Elko was the final team to qualify for the state championships, placing third with 57 points. South Tahoe (116) and Fernley (148) rounded out the top five.
Truckee juniors Skyler Flora and Gabrielle Rinnie swept the top two individual spots, with times of 19 minutes, 15 seconds and 19:49, respectively. Spring Creek's Makenzie Whimple (20:11) and Julia Mahlke (20:21) were third and fourth and Elko's Kacie Bell (20:34) was fifth.
Jorden Raynor led the Lady Bucks with a 33rd -place finish in a time of 24:14, while teammate Charice Brown was 34th at 24:26. Alondra Duenas was the next Lowry finisher in 42nd, with a time of 26:00, while Haley Weber was 47th in a time of 26:51.
Nani Ramirez placed 49th in a time of 27:03 and Shannon Munk (27:29) and Jancy Ulch (28:54) were 50th and 51st, respectively.
Spring Creek won the boys title with 49 points, Elko was a close second at 51 and Churchill County earned the final state berth with 85 points. Truckee and South Tahoe rounded out the top five with 86 and 116 points, respectively.
Spring Creek's Daniel Sallee won the individual title with a time of 17:04. Truckee's Noah Oberriter was second at 17:09 and Dayton's Aaron Elissa (17:22) and Elko's Kyler Simpkins (17:28) were third and fourth, respectively.
Richie Bleck had the best finish for the Buckaroos, placing 29th in a time of 19:12. Kobe Fitzpatrick finished 32nd with a time of 19:26 and Harley Baker was 35th in a time of 19:38.
Ethan Andrews placed 44th at 20:36, Nate Nelson finished 46th at 20:47 and Devin Morris (21:07) and Luis Brown (21:09) were 49th and 50th, respectively.
The Division I-A State Championships take place Saturday at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
