WINNEMUCCA - During the three months of long practices and meets, a team has to have fun every once and a while. That is what the Lowry High School cross country squad did last Wednesday in South Lake Tahoe at the Retro Relays.

The race is run a bit different with competitors dressing in various costumes. The format features four-person teams that run two miles each. The teams can consist of all girls, boys or a mixture of both.

Prior to the high school meet, grade school and junior high students also have races.

"It is a good opportunity to let the kids have some fun," said LHS head coach Kathy Norcutt. "It is a good break in the middle of the season. While the kids are having fun, it is a challenging course. They are still getting their work in, just in a different atmosphere."

Lowry will be at home on Friday for its meet at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

"It is always nice to be at home," Norcutt said. "It should be a good race with some fast times. It is one of the flattest courses we run on. We'll try to get on the course a day early to get used to it. It is different when you run on grass."
