Lowry boys win three of four at Legacy Tip-Off Classic

Bucks play twice on Thursday in Reno at Rail City Classic

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School boys basketball team picked up three victories in four games at the Legacy Tip-Off this past weekend in Las Vegas.

The Buckaroo boys lost 76-56 to Arbor View in their opening game of the tournament on Thursday night. Arbor View reached the semifinals of the Division I South Sunset Regional Championships last year.

Lowry (4-1) bounced back on Friday to beat Southern 55-47. Southern is a school out of Australia.

The Buckaroos picked up a second victory over an Australian team on Saturday morning with a 72-71 triumph over AUBD 2. AUBD 2 is coached by former NBA player Sedale Threatt.

The Australian school made 15 3-point shots in the game and led Lowry by four points at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Buckaroos closed out the tournament on Saturday night with a 72-54 victory over Rancho to claim third out of 12 teams.

Lowry's Josh Watterson was named to the all tournament team.

The Buckaroos travel to Reno this weekend to compete in the Rail City Classic. Lowry plays twice on Thursday, beginning with Carson at 3 p.m. at Wooster High School. The Buckaroos will be back on the floor at 6 p.m. to play McQueen.

Friday's matchups will be determined after pool play is completed on Thursday night. The Buckaroos will play either Reed, Wooster or Placer, Calif., on Friday.

Reno, Galena, Thurgood Marshall (Calif.), Sparks, Damonte Ranch and West Wendover are also partcipating in the tournament.
