WINNEMUCCA - It was another stroll in the park for the Lowry High School freshmen boys basketball team on Saturday in Winnemucca.
The Buckaroos played a pair of games and were not challenged in either contest. Lowry opened with a 63-23 win over Fernley and closed out the day with a 66-28 rout of Spring Creek.
"It was another good day for us," said LHS head coach Grant Beatty. "It was a good chance to get all the guys some quality playing time on the floor."
The Buckaroos jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter, but put the game out of reach in the second period on the strength of a 23-3 run to lead 35-8 at halftime.
Nathan Lutzow scored seven points in the second period, while Jared Taylor added six. Christian Riddle and Jacob Hales had five points apiece in the quarter, with each making a 3-point field goal.
The rout continued into the second half with the Buckaroos outscoring Fernley 14-5 in the final eight minutes of play.
Lowry had three players reach double figures in points with Lutzow leading the way with 15. Hales and Taylor netted 12 and 10 points, respectively, Allen eight, Brody Goucher six, Riddle five, Brian Shettler three and Dominic Diaz and Kyle Schultz two each.
The Buckaroos were just as dominant in the afternoon game against Spring Creek, scoring the first 22 points of the game. Lutzow had nine of those points, while Taylor picked up five, Shettler four and Riddle made a 3-point field goal.
The advantage never dropped below 20 points the rest of the game as the Buckaroos increased their lead in every quarter.
Taylor (18), Lutzow (15) and Goucher (12) combined for 45 of Lowry's 66 points. Shettler added eight points, Schultz and Hales four each, Riddle three and Allen two.
Lowry and Spring Creek get back together tonight as the Buckaroos travel to Spring Creek for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. Lowry travels to Elko on Saturday to face the Indians at 10:30 a.m. and Spring Creek at noon.
