WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School boys golf team won its second tournament in as many tries this season last Thursday in Dayton at the Arnold Palmer-designed Dayton Valley Country Club.
The Buckaroos shot 426 to outdistance runner-up Spring Creek by 23 strokes. Elko (471) was third, Churchill County fourth (489) and Fernley fifth (544).
Lowry leads the way in the Northern 3A standings with 18 points, as the top three teams at the end of the regular season advance to the 3A State Championships in Boulder City in May. Elko and Spring Creek are tied for second with 15 points, and defending 3A state champion Churchill County is fourth with 11 points.
Churchill County's Thaaron Kalt was low medalist with a 77.
Sophomore Chris Mendoza led Lowry with a 78 and finished second overall. He was followed by Cole Erquiaga and Josh Shaver with rounds of 87 that tied them for fourth overall. Chris Dendary (89) and Jacob Jakich (91) rounded out the scores for Lowry.
The Buckaroos will compete at a tournament in Fallon today at 10 a.m. Lowry will host the next Northern 3A tournament on Thursday, April 12, at 10 a.m. at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
