Lowry boys drop matches to Elko, Spring Creek

Bucks closed out season Thursday

The Lowry High School boys soccer team dropped a pair of road matches to Elko County schools.

The Buckaroos traveled to Elko on Thursday, Oct. 23, and lost 1-0 to the Indians. The match was plagued with a number of yellow cards and fouls and each team was given a red card. Both schools played with 10 players in the second half.

"We came out and played pretty well," said LHS coach Steve Swanson. "It got pretty rough in the second half. Toward the end Elko was just looking to take its time and stall."

Elko broke through in the second half on a penalty kick and made that shot hold up the rest of the way.

Lowry (4-11 Division I-A North, 5-14 overall) made the trip back to the eastern part of the state on I-80 on Tuesday to face Spring Creek. The Spartans completed the season sweep with a 7-0 win.

Spring Creek scored five times in the first half, including two in the first 10 minutes off of throw ins. The Spartans added two more goals in the second half, when the Buckaroos closed out the scoring with their only goal late in the second half.

Lowry, who will not play in the postseason, closed out its season on Thursday in Sparks. Results were not available at press time.
