The Lowry High School basketball teams will represent Humboldt County this weekend at the NIAA State Basketball Championships in Las Vegas.
The girls basketball team, 47-43 winners over Elko in the Division I-A Regional Championship last Saturday in Fallon, will play Faith Lutheran at 3 p.m. Friday at Silverado High School. Elko plays Spring Valley, the Southern I-A champion, at 6:20 p.m. in the other semifinal. The championship game is set for 2:40 p.m. on Saturday the Orleans Arena.
The Buckaroos boys finished second this past weekend at the Division I-A North Regional Championships at Fallon.
Lowry defeated Spring Creek 66-57 Friday night in the semifinals but lost 55-31 to Elko in the championship game Saturday.
Lowry will play Clark on Friday at 8 p.m. at Silverado High School. The two schools played in the state semifinals last year. The Chargers are the defending state champion.
Elko will face Desert Pines in the other semifinal game at 4:40 p.m. also at Silverado High School. The championship game is set for 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
In Division III girls bracket, Pershing County plays Needles at 3 p.m. at Sunrise Mountain High School and White Pine and Incline play at 6:20 p.m. The championship is set for 6:20 p.m. Saturday at the Orleans Arena.
On the boys side, Yerington faces The Meadows at 4:40 p.m. and Incline takes on Agassi Prep at 8 p.m. The championship will be Saturday at 8:10 p.m. at the Orleans Arena
The Division IV schools start their tournament Friday at the Orleans Arena. The girls bracket features Pahranagat Valley against Pyramid Lake at 2:30 p.m. and Smith Valley and Round Mountain play at 2:30 p.m.
Virginia City and Pahranagat Valley boys play at 12:45 p.m. and Whittell plays Spring Mountain at 4:15 p.m. The girls and boys championship games take place at 11 a.m. and 12:50 p.m., respectively, on Saturday at the Orleans Arena.
