WINNEMUCCA - A handful of athletes from Lowry High School traveled to Reno on Friday, May 31, to compete in the Northern Nevada Weightlifting Championships at Reno High School.
They competed with Reno, Carson, Reed, McQueen, Spanish Springs, Wooster and Fernley.
Beau Billingsley was named the best overall lifter, taking first in the 185-pound junior varsity division. The junior to be this fall led the way in the squat and bench competitions. He squatted 385 pounds and benched 245. He tied for fourth in the clean at 245 pounds. His total of 875 pounds was 45 pounds better than McQueen's Nathan Narra.
Lowry's Shelby McKinnon and Alex Schirrick led the way in the female division, as McKinnon was first with a total of 485 pounds and Schirrick finished second at 460.
McKinnon led the way in the squat (205) and clean (150) and the junior to be was second in the bench at 130 pounds. Schirrick was first in the bench press at 130 pounds, third in the clean at 145 pounds and was fourth in the squat at 185 pounds. Reno's Victoria Boldi was third with a total of 430 pounds.
Felipe Moreno and Luis Cardenas placed second and fourth, respectively, in the junior varsity heavyweight division. Moreno
placed second in the squat at 425 pounds and he was third in the bench press at 250. He cleaned 235 pounds to finish with a total of 910. Reno's Paula Finau was first with 915 pounds
Cardenas finished third in the clean at 245 pounds and was third in the squat at 390.
Michael Billingsley placed fourth in the 185-pound varsity division with a total of 880 pounds. He was third in the squat with 385 pounds.
Reed's Carlos Pinto won with 1,040 pounds and Wooster's Marlon Lopez was second at 975.
Calvin Connors finished with a total of 695 pounds in the 165-pound division. He squatted 313 pounds, cleaned 205 and benched 175.
