Lovelock man injured in I-80 rollover accident

WINNEMUCCA - A Lovelock man was seriously injured Tuesday in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 80 about 1.5 miles west of Winnemucca.

Jeffrey Simons, 35, was driving a Ford Explorer westbound on I-80 when the tread separated from the tire leading to a tire malfunction. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which entered the median and rolled. It traveled 162 feet from the initial point of impact to where the vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane of traffic, according to NHP Trooper Zach Peterson of the Winnemucca NHP office.

Simons was flown by Careflight to Renown Medical Center in Reno with serious injuries. The female passenger, Elizabeth Sample, 32, was treated and released.

Both were wearing seatbelts, the NHP said.
