Lovelock celebrates love Annual wedding and vow renewal ceremony to be held on Feb. 14

LOVELOCK - Lovelock will hold its annual Valentine's Day wedding and vow renewals ceremony at the Lover's Lock Plaza this Valentine's Day. The multiple wedding and vow renewal event is sponsored each year by the Lovelock/Pershing County Chamber of Commerce.

The ceremonies will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Lover's Lock Plaza in the Pershing County Courthouse Park. Walter Kaptain, pastor of Big Meadow Bible Church, will officiate over the marriage and vow renewals.

After the ceremony participants will be given the opportunity to lock their love at the Lover's Lock Plaza.

The chamber of commerce will also host a short reception immediately following the ceremony in the round room of the Pershing County Courthouse. To participate in this year's ceremonies call the chamber at 273-7213.

Couples wishing to get married on Valentine's Day should have obtained a Nevada marriage license from their own county or from Pershing County prior to the ceremony.

To obtain a marriage license in Pershing County both parties must go to the county clerk's office at 398 Main St. with picture ID's. Both parties must know where their parents were born, father's names and mother's maiden names. If either party is divorced they will need to bring a copy of the divorce decree or know the month, date and year of the divorce and the city and state where the divorce was issued. Anyone under 18 must have parental permission and at least one parent must be present to apply for the marriage license. A marriage license costs $60. The clerk's office will accept cash only for marriage licenses. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In 2006 Lovelock adopted an ancient Chinese custom of locking ones love on a chain to symbolize keeping that love forever. It is uncertain how the tradition began, but the evidence of lock-laden chains is common in the Yellow Mountains and at the Great Wall of China.

Holding true to its name, Lovelock has provided the Nevada version of the ancient tradition for lovers from around the world. The chains around Lover's Lock Plaza host well over 2,000 locks from local residents as well as from people across the U.S. and the world.

Fasten a lock on the chain and throw away the key, thus uniting your love for eternity.
