House moving at the Black Hole Mine, ca 1922

I'm not sure why they decided to move this cabin. That part of the story didn't survive over the years. For whatever reason, the boss at the Black Hole Mine informed his crew that he wanted this particular cabin moved. He left it to his lead man, George Stakel, to get the job done.

George went to an area rancher and hired the teams necessary for the job. Once obtained it was dirty back breaking work. First, the cabin had to be levered up and two skids placed underneath. Then rocks, and the occasional sagebrush, moved out of the way all the way to its new foundation.

Amazingly the cabin is mostly intact and it's almost to the Black Hole. (The windows were removed before they started to haul it away). With a little bracing, reinstalled windows, and nails where needed, the cabin was ready for its new life at the mine!
