Battle Mountain High School will be celebrating Homecoming 2014 the week of Sept. 15-20. The theme is based on music and titled "LONGHORN PALOOZA". The theme and activities are decided and sponsored by the BMHS Student Council and the Leadership Class.
The week will start off on Monday, Sept. 15 with a country themed dress-up day. There will also be an hour long assembly that day to allow for introduction of homecoming royalty and fall sports teams along with some friendly class competition featuring lip syncs. On Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the football field there will be a Powder-Puff football game with the high school girls competing against each other. The seniors and sophomores will go against the juniors and freshmen. There will also be some male cheerleaders.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16 the dress-up day is Rock of Ages. The soccer teams play at home against Lowry at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday evening will be a good time for the classes to put the finishing touches on their floats.
On Wednesday, Sept. 17 the dress-up day is called Decades and it is based on the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. The volleyball teams play Silver Stage at 4 p.m. The hope is to see lots of people that evening in the gym at 7 p.m. for the annual He-Man volleyball game with the winners of the class tournament challenging the staff team and also the alumni team.
Thursday, Sept. 18 is a busy day. The dress-up day is titled Longhorn Green Day and everyone should be wearing lots of green, white and gold. There will be an assembly during the school day which will feature class skits and male dance teams. At 8 p.m. at the Civic Center is the annual vanities event which will feature the crowning of the homecoming royalty, and all the class lip syncs, skits and male dance teams. This is open to all of the community. The homecoming bonfire will be lit after the vanities at approximately 9:30 p.m. and the hope is to have a large crowd at both of these events.
On Friday, Sept. 19 the homecoming parade will start at noon in front of Etcheverry's FoodTown and will continue down Front Street to Broad Street and finish up at the Battle Mountain Junior High School. This year the BMHS Booster Club is donating prize money to the class float winners. The cost for the dance is $7 a person and semi-formal attire is expected.
If anyone is in need of more information they may call the high school and ask to talk to Sondra Torgerson. The hope is to see lots of community spirit to support the BMHS Longhorns.[[In-content Ad]]
