Local woman wins hospice quilt raffle

WINNEMUCCA - One Winnemucca woman got lucky recently.

Marilyn Dafoe won a quilt that was raffled off by the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice on Dec. 20.

The quilt was donated by Winnemucca artist Sharon Smith.

Each year, the local non-profit raffles a handmade quilt to raise money to help the community's chronically and terminally ill residents.

Hospice volunteers began selling raffle tickets for the quilt in the fall.

"We are always amazed at people's generosity toward those who are in need," said Sherry Smith, hospice executive director. "These wonderful quilters simply outdo themselves every year in the beautiful quilts they give us and our community comes out in force to help us raise the most money possible."

The hospice helps those facing end-of-life situations as well as those suffering from chronic illness.
