A pair of Winnemucca swimmers turned in strong performances as they competed at the Blizzard Blast in Carson City on Jan. 17-18.
The two-day event was USA-sanctioned and featured 400 swimmers and 20 teams from the Pacific Swimming and Sierra Nevada divisions. Winnemucca brought 13 swimmers to the meet.
Mai Kawahata placed in the top eight in three of her events in the 8 and under age group. She was second in the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 52.80 seconds. Kawahata was eighth in the 100 freestyle at 1:42.82 and eighth in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:49.90.
Hunter Lewis finished in the top eight in two events in the boys 11-12-year-old age group. He timed in at 3:19.68 in the 200 backstroke and 4:04.70 in the 200 breaststroke.
