BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Rachel's Challenge returned to Battle Mountain on Jan. 31 for year two, Rachel's Legacy.

Rachel Scott's life and the Columbine tragedy hold students spell-bound during a one-hour presentation that motivates them to positively change the way they treat each other. This year's challenge included: 1) Leave a Legacy of Kindness, 2) Show Compassion to Others, 3) Practice Pre-Acceptance, 4) Learn from Your Mistakes and 5) Forgive Yourself.

The morning assemblies were followed by a separate 90-minute training involving student leaders from Battle Mountain High School and Battle Mountain Junior High's Rachel's Club that shows how to sustain the momentum created by the assembly.

The Lander County School District would like to thank Newmont Mining and Barrick Gold North America for sponsoring this program.

"You just might start a chain reaction." - Rachel Scott
