WINNEMUCCA - According to the website proactivechange.com, 40 percent to 45 percent of American adults make one or more New Year's resolutions each year. The Humboldt Sun queried a few community members about their own resolutions or lack thereof.
Kelli Swanger, floor manager of a local retail business, said that she has never made a New Year's resolution. She stated that although she has not made any formal declarations, she tries to be a better person each year. "More giving and more caring," she explained.
Undersheriff Curtiss Kull told the Sun that his resolution for 2012 is to complete his book on former Humboldt County Sheriff Graham Lamb. He stated that once it is done, he will start looking for a publisher.
Court reporter Donna Prather said she wants to hone her skills to include captioning and CART (Communication Access Realtime) services for the hearing impaired. She stated that captioning is used not only on television but over the Internet and cell phones as well.
Marie Casalez, a grocery cashier, said that she didn't have any New Year's resolutions but she wishes peace and happiness to everyone.
Mayor Di An Putnam expressed her thoughts about New Year's resolutions in an e-mail, saying, "I do talk about making a New Year's resolution every year - however my good intentions most always lead me to a failure. This year, I decided not to make a resolution that would lead to failure. My thought is to take some of my personality traits and see if I can improve on them this next year. The first is to do very little procrastination. If it is right - do it; if it is wrong - don't. I also want to read more this next year - finish more books not just start them! Of course there is always the annual weight/exercise challenge (which I always fail). So this next year my goal is to not gain weight and walk a little more often. I do also want to keep a positive outlook for not only our community but our country."
