LOVELOCK - Nikki Talcott won the Shop Local for the Holidays promotion sponsored by the Lovelock/Pershing Chamber of Commerce. Talcott's name was picked from hundreds of entries on Dec. 19 in the chamber office by EP Minerals Site Operations Manager Corey Hartwig and chamber President Jennifer Hill. Talcott won $250 in Lovelock Loot.
In October, EP Minerals purchased $500 in Lovelock Loot to kick-start the program and then donated the money back to the chamber to use as prizes during special events. The chamber donated $250 worth to the Parade of Lights event as prize money and gave away $250 in Lovelock Loot as a prize for the chamber's Shop Local for the Holidays promotion and drawing.
The chamber of commerce's Lovelock Loot program is off to a good start thanks to local business leaders. EP Minerals purchased an additional $700, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) purchased $600 and Lovelock Chevron bought $500.
Beth Reid, chamber administrative assistant, reported that $2,300 has been purchased by locals as gifts and awards.
Lovelock Loot is a gift certificate program that can only be used at Pershing County businesses. The chamber developed the program as a method to promote local shopping and to encourage residents to support the local business community. Lovelock Loot comes in $5 increments and can be used just like cash.
Loot can be purchased at the Pershing County Chamber of Commerce between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The certificates are customized to include the purchaser's name or logo.
"The Lovelock Loot makes a great Christmas present and is a great way to support your community," Hill said.
Hartwig said EP will be using the program for incentives and awards through the next year.
The chamber is encouraging businesses to accept Lovelock Loot and to participate in the chamber's program.
Originally, Lovelock Loot was designed as a chamber benefit for its members, but during the introductory period that ends on June 30, 2012, all businesses may accept the certificates in exchange for goods and services.
Redeeming Lovelock Loot is simple. Just deliver or mail the utilized certificates to the chamber office and a check will be written to the business for the amount of Lovelock Loot submitted.
Businesses that are members receive a sign for their window promoting their acceptance of Lovelock Loot and their membership.
