Relay for Life of Winnemucca is choosing hope this season! We are getting a headstart this year with our many activities and fundraising efforts because we want to give our teams, businesses and participants enough time to fundraise for this event.
We held our annual kick-off/wrap-up party in November, and it was a great success. The party included the opportunity to meet the 2013-2014 committee members. You can also meet your committee members online at www.relayforlife.org on the Winnemucca event page.
At the kick-off party we handed out many awards for those who helped in various ways last year to make the event a success. There are amazing people and businesses in this community who spend time and money each year to help the American Cancer Society.
This month, we want to focus on the hope that comes from Relay For Life of Winnemucca and the American Cancer Society. As we celebrate this holiday season we enjoy time with family and friends. There is a spirit of giving throughout the community. Joy and happiness are spread among friends and loved ones.
The last thing that we want to focus on right now is cancer and suffering. But right here in our own community there are many who are facing the challenging times that cancer brings; either they or their loved ones are battling this disease. Let's remember those at this time by spreading hope.
Each year the American Cancer Society raises money to help those with cancer, their loved ones and fund research to help cure cancer.
One way that the American Cancer Society provides hope is through the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge. This is a home away from home for those who have to travel to receive treatment for cancer.
The Hope Lodge is a free place to stay for cancer patients and their caregivers. There are 31 Hope Lodges in the United States at this time, with each providing a place of support and love during their stay.
As you begin to see Relay For Life throughout the community this year doing fundraisers, I hope that you will remember all those that you can give hope to by donating time and money. If you are interested in participating in this year's event please feel free to contact Kayla Jonas kaylajrelay@hotmail.com or 1755-283-8390 or Ginx Viegut ginx.relay@yahoo.com
We are excited to begin working for this wonderful cause. As the publicity chair again this year, I will be writing articles to raise awareness of the many different types of cancer that affect too many each year. I will also be providing the community with important dates and information regarding this year's event. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact your committee members who are here to help you.
