Local Red Cross seeking "Real Heroes" nominations

Winnemucca - The American Red Cross-Winnemucca Service Center is searching for people who have gone above and beyond to help a friend, family member, community member or even a complete stranger during 2011-2012.

"Real Heroes are people who have shown extraordinary courage and acts of kindness," said Sharon Crino, Interim Executive Director for the Northern Nevada Chapter. "Each year the Winnemucca Service Center has recognized true heroes in our communities. If you know of a real hero among us we encourage you to nominate them."

The Winnemucca Service Center will accept 2012 Real Heroes award nominations until Thursday, Aug. 2. The awards will be presented Sept. 8 at the 11th annual Real Heroes Awards Ceremony & Banquet at the Winnemucca Convention Center.

Nomination forms can be picked up at the Winnemucca Service Center or downloaded from the Chapter website at www.nevada.redcross.org. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 2 and are open to all residents from Humboldt, Lander and Pershing counties. A digital photograph of the nominee is also greatly appreciated.

Corporations and local businesses are invited to support this uplifting community event, which attracts residents from Humboldt, Lander, and Pershing counties. Preferred sponsorships are available at this time. All proceeds from the Real Heroes celebration remain in the area to ensure your local Red Cross is able to provide emergency assistance to local families affected by disasters, provide assistance to members of the Armed Forces and their families, and teach the community about emergency preparedness and lifesaving skills.

For more information about nominations, sponsorships, or to volunteer, please contact the Service Center at (775) 625-1155 or stop by your local American Red Cross office located at 612 Melarkey St.
