LOVELOCK - Pastor Scott Davis and wife, Andrea, from Bethel Baptist Church, are hosting family game nights throughout the summer.

"It will give parents and kids a chance to spend some time together during the time of year when everyone seems to be going separate directions," Pastor Scott Davis said.

Game nights start on May 31 and will continue, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every other Friday night through Aug. 23.

The idea of a game night started when congregation members were talking about wanting to get together more often. The suggestion of a game night came up in the conversation.

"I thought it would be nice to open it up to the public and everyone agreed, so that's how it all came about," Davis said.

He said the evening is just a time for families to spend some time together.

"There is not going to be any preaching. This is not a church thing, just a family thing," he said.

The Davises have over 30 board and card games for people to choose from. The couple says they enjoy playing a variety of games, although each has their personal favorite. Pastor Davis said his favorite game is Mexican Train Dominoes, a domino game with colored dots and a train roundhouse where the dominos tracks are started.

Andrea Davis said she likes to play the Five Crown card game, a rummy style card game but with five suits.

The Davis' game collection includes Scrabble, Monopoly-Elvis Edition, Trivial Pursuit, Jenga; three different types of Yahtzee games and a giant chess and checkers set.

Pastor Davis said that the games are for school-aged children through adults.

"The nursery is available for anyone who can't get a babysitter," Davis said.

Family game nights will be on May 31, June 14 and 28, July 12 and 26, Aug. 9 and 23.

Game nights will be held in the Sunday school room of Bethel Baptist Church on Franklin Avenue. Davis asks that people use the side entrance on 9th Street, not the main church door on Franklin.[[In-content Ad]]
