LOCAL MERCHANTS' DONATION MERITS SPECIAL THANKS FROM HOSPICE THRIFT STORE

WINNEMUCCA, Nev.- Some long-time local merchants recently made a welcome donation to the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Shop.

Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith said Sal Romero and his wife, Carolyn, called the shop last August and asked if they could donate their remaining store goods in preparation for retirement.

The Romeros owned Burdette's shoe store in Winnemucca for over 30 years.

"We would like to extend a very special thank you to them and let them know how much we appreciate them for thinking of us," said Smith. "We cannot thank them enough."

Smith said she and her volunteer staff were amazed at the number of donations from the long-time business owners.

"There were display items, hardware, backpacks and several, several pairs of boots and shoes-new boots and shoes!" said Smith. "It was amazing."

Smith said as a nonprofit organization, the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is totally dependent on the Frugal Flamingo's income to carry out its mission of honoring and supporting individuals in the Humboldt County community who are suffering from a chronic, debilitating or terminal illness.

All hospice care is provided at no cost to patients. Families do not need a doctor's referral in order to access hospice services.

"So when we receive a donation like that, which we can then turn around and sell for a nice profit, it just makes us feel so thankful," she said.

She added, "This is one more generous donation to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of our patients. We sincerely thank Sal and Carolyn Romero for their kindness in thinking of us."
