The local FFA chapter has started out the year strong. The 2014 - 2015 Winnemucca FFA officer team is Blake Duncan (president), Sarah Smith (vice president), Kylie Lewis (secretary), Michael Venzor (treasurer), Jacy Urain (reporter), Shauna Smith (historian), Hayley Hall (sentinel), and Rebecca Hill (advisor).
Starting in June, 24 members from the Winnemucca FFA chapter attended the 2014 Summer Leadership Camp (SLC). They learned a variety of ways to come together as a chapter and even had the chance to make some new FFA friends. The group started out early with its first car wash as a fundraiser, raising over $700. There are several more fundraisers to come such as jerky sales, fruit sales, and flower sales!
First year members Megan Miller, Seth Duncan, Taylor Aitken, Quint Bell, Lucy Acevedo, Kerstin Christiansen, Trinity Manning, Julia Laird, Tuni Rolando and Maddi Wiggins attended a leadership conference in Fallon on Sept. 24. The Range, Soils, and Homesite teams competed in Elko Oct. 6 for this year's competition. The Soils and Homesite teams placed second.
The Soils and Homesite teams consisted of members Sarah Smith, Diamond Castillo, Kylie Lewis and Cody Lewis. The Range Judging team consisted of Patrice Stewart, Katleyn Rose, Kerstin Christiansen, and Jacy Urain.
The Winnemucca FFA Livestock team consisting of Shauna Smith, Hayley Hall, Makenzie Gordon, Brittany Partee and Diamond Castillo will be representing the state of Nevada at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY at the end of October. Wish them luck!
Several FFA members have volunteered their time already during the Superior Livestock Auction, Dinner, and Dance. They also volunteered at the Chris Young concert. Not to mention the Stewart '96 Ranch Celebration.
Thank you Kris, Fred, and Patrice Stewart for allowing FFA members to help. The chapter is excited for a new and fun year.
FFA members hope everyone in the community gets involved with fundraisers to show your support.
