WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County School District (HCSD) Transition Programs has received a Medicaid Infrastructure Grant to host a week long After School Work Camp for students with disabilities. The camp will run from Nov. 28 - Dec. 3. Through this week long employment camp, students will experience a variety of employment responsibilities in a competitive employment position such as getting to work in a timely manner, transportation issues and potential solutions for our rural area, tracking work time, on the job expectations, possible supports and assistive technology each individual may need, and the specific skills needed for successful employment in their career interest.
During the Monday through Friday after school sessions, we will be listening to guest speakers from Vocational Rehabilitation, Join, Great Basin College, looking at the NCIS interest survey for students, and learning about the skill set needed to be successfully employed. Parents will be invited to this portion of the work camp. Saturday will consist of a work experience at a job location of the student's preference, and then a celebration at the end of the day.
LHS has 55 students that are participating, three teachers, 16 paraprofessionals,
and 15 local businesses have agreed to join us in this unique and exciting employment venture.
