Local day care businesses to host children's vaccination clinics

CARSON CITY - Licensed child care centers in Winnemucca and Lovelock, in partnership with the Nevada State Health Division, will hold vaccination clinics for their students on Tuesday, July 24, (Winnemucca) and Wednesday, July 25 (Lovelock).

Zion Lutheran Church Preschool, Learning Ladder Preschool, Carmel's Child Care and Kinder Castle Child Development Center have sent information packets with permission slips home to families. Immunizations are voluntary and parents have the option to be with their child on the day of the clinic.

"It is great to see these facilities welcome us so warmly and play an active role in the health of the children, and as a result, in the health of the entire community," said State Health Officer Tracey D. Green, MD. "The Health Division would like to see all vaccine-preventable diseases disappear from Nevada."

The clinics come in response to recent whooping cough outbreaks in Nevada. In response to the outbreaks, the Nevada State Health Division reviewed vaccination records for preschool-age children and found low immunization rates for that group.

The vaccinations to be offered include DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis or whooping cough), polio, Hib (meningitis), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), varicella (chickenpox), hepatitis B, hepatitis A, PCV (pneumonia) and rotavirus.

Partnering with the day care facilities is possible through grant funding from the Nevada Attorney General's office. The vaccinations are offered at low or no cost. The Nevada State Health Division is pleased to join forces with these businesses to reduce the occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases in their communities.
