Local 4-H leaders attend forum in Las Vegas

LOVELOCK - Over 120 4-H leaders, teen leaders and staff from around the state gathered in Las Vegas Feb. 22-23 for the 2013 Nevada 4-H Leaders Forum. "4-H Share the Love" was the theme. Joe and Sheri Crim and Marianne Papa attended from Lovelock.

The keynote speaker was Vernard Williams, who serves on the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE), a national nonprofit that gives high school students the knowledge and tools to do something about climate change.

Williams credits his 4-H experience for shaping his desire to empower youth leadership.

Adult and teen leaders had their choice of 14 workshops, including: Making the Leap from Traditional to Social Media; Add Some Color to Your Life; FUNdraising; Digital Photography; Robotics; Pledges: Our Words, our Deeds; Dutch Ado about Cooking and All in Favor Say "Aye."

Saturday evening's program started with a welcome from the former Dean of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Karen Hinton.

She addressed many of the concerns facing 4-H and thanked all the 4-H leaders for their many volunteer hours. For more information on how you can support University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Hinton recommended going to supportunce.com.

At the recognition banquet, all 4-H leaders were thanked for their continued commitment and service. A special award was presented to Hinton for her faithful commitment to the 4-H program.

The evening culminated with a "You Pick It" raffle which raised 10 scholarships for the 2014 Leaders Forum.
