LOVELOCK - Pershing County Library treated area children to El Dia De Los NiƱo, a Hispanic culture celebration translated as "The Day of the Children," on April 26. Children were treated to a special day just for them with lots of activities and entertainment.
The usual quietness of the library was not to be found on this day, as children ran, laughed and played. Face-painting, games and crafts were provided to entertain local children attending the party.
A smorgasbord of cultural foods, including enchiladas, tacos and rice milk, were provided free of charge for those attending the fiesta.
As a special treat, the library arranged for Mariachis to play and sing popular songs that had both the young and older generations clapping and singing along.
The children also entertained those attending with the Mexican hat dance, the Macarena and the chicken dance. The children have been practicing the dances for many months for this event, library personnel said.
The fiesta is a gift from the Hispanic community to all the children of the world. According to the official website National Latino Children's Institute www.nlci.org, the fiesta is celebrated in many countries around the world. The celebration is designed to create cultural diversity among children of all nationalities.
