LHS Homecoming: Contagious energy

Friday was the busiest yet best day for Homecoming by far! It started out with a pep assembly that was truly entertaining and by far the best one that Lowry has seen in many years. That is all because of the Dream Team Student Body officers and the folks from Friday Night Rivals who came to film the assembly and broadcast the game live on our local channel 21. Not only that, but the leadership students put on a benefit tailgate to support Julia Aitken, Tovi Hilbish and Joelle Cooper in their battle against cancer and raised $3,400.

The pep assembly that happened on Friday was a big hit. There was so much enthusiasm from it being Homecoming that it was contagious. There was a flash mob that had been put together by the student body and included all of the varsity fall sports teams. For example, there were the football teams, the cheer teams, the dance team, the soccer teams and many others.

Then there was the banner competition. There were a lot of entries, one for each class or group. I think the varsity cheer was the biggest, having two posters taped together. But, I have to say that I think the freshman class banner was one of the best shown. For their first year of course!

Now onto the sports that happened on Friday. There was a cross country meet here at home at the golf course at 3 p.m. Volleyball faced Dayton at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. The JV and varsity football teams faced Elko at 4:30 and 7 p.m. The score for the JV game was 34-16 with the win going to Elko. And the score for the varsity game was a terrible 21-0 loss.

Now, there wouldn't be a Homecoming if we didn't have a Grand Marshal. This year's grand Marshal was Ron Beck, which was announced to the public at the game Friday night. Mr. Beck has been working here at the high school for 25 years. He has coached all levels of football for 24 of them. Not only has he coached football, but he also coached baseball for seven years. Congratulations Mr. Beck![[In-content Ad]]
