Leon was a lifetime buckaroo who enjoyed hunting, riding horses and camping. He loved his family and friends and they perhaps loved him even more. After fighting cancer with his usual humor and wit, staying positive even when the going was tough, showing strength when others would fail, Leon passed away surrounded by family members at his home in Battle Mountain on May 11, 2012. We lost a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend, He was 66.
Leon was born on Aug. 23, 1945, to Ray Leon Burris and Alice Burris (Erny). He was born in San Francisco. He attended grade school in McDermitt, and high school in Winnemucca. He and his wife Gladys Burris were married on Aug. 26, 1962 in Golconda. They resided in Getchell for 3 years, where Leon worked for the Getchell Mine. Around 3 years later, they moved to Montana. Leon was a buckaroo on a ranch near Broadus, Mont., at Pumpkin Creek. They moved to Battle Mountain in 1974 and have lived there ever since.
Leon always had a great personality and even better sense of humor. To cure heart burn he told his granddaughter to swallow a teaspoon of baking soda. Then had her lie down on her tummy, he then put his cowboy hat over her bottom and said, "When it blows off you'll be feeln' better". If Lee ever looked at you and shook his head no and said, "I wouldn't do that if I were you!" Then you probably shouldn't have done it. If you did then you were probably getting bucked off your horse, getting your finger in fan or getting divorced in a few years.
Leon is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gladys; his two children, Leon (Spooker) Ray Burris and Sherry Lynn Burris; his grandchildren, Adia Smith, Travis Neu (Melissa Neu), Camille Bourquin (Cole Bourquin), Jenae Neu, and Tyler Neu; his great grandchildren, Cash Bourquin and Bryce Smith; his sister, Raye Fagg; his nephews, Lenny Fagg, Todd Fagg, Brian Fagg; and his niece, Rennae Fagg.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Miller, and father, Ray Leon Burris.
